Action Kids – How it Began
Once upon a time not so long ago, well about 20 years actually, a lady called Val Sabin set about a very pleasant task indeed. Up until now, Val had spent most of her time teaching, coaching, training and writing extremely interesting books for teachers. There was no-one who loved doing all things active more than Val and no-one who loved the books more than the school teachers, who had to teach ‘all things active’. Before Val could say ‘anyone for a half-time orange?’ she was training, motivating and inspiring teachers to become outstandingly fantastic PE people. The U.K schools were soon alive with a wonderfully challenging PE experience. Val discovered that although many school children were now learning amazingly new skills, tricks and techniques in games, gym and dance there didn’t seem to be the same kind of PE fun and development for pre-school children. Enter……Val’s Action Kids pencil!!
It set to work and in no time at all, began the creation of magical stories, rhymes and action songs to encourage younger children to move-play-learn. Val’s expertise transferred beautifully into the pre-school world and together with David Sabin’s extensive research into brain and body development; the Action Kids journey began! At that time, little did anyone know just how fantastic this programme would be; in no time at all it was being reported back from the wonderful world of pre-school that Action Kids is truly brilliant. Nursery staff, reception teachers and parents were all shouting from the rooftops “Action Kids is amazing!” As it turns out, not only is it physical development with fun; Action Kids move-play-learn through; stories, dance, music, role-play, rhyme, songs and so much more. Soon, grown-ups began to discover the major benefits as their children did Action Kids. There was talk of soaring social skills; concentration and confidence were climbing to the tops of the trees; behaviour was booming and motor skills were motoring. As Action Kids continued to grow, Val’s Action Kids pencil continued to write; new music, new songs and new activities encouraging more children to join in the treasure chest of physical fun! Action Kids is now an Active Learning Journey which welcomes everyone to come and join.
